Employee Spotlight: Kim Murray

Employee Spotlight: Kim Murray

Meet Kim M. She is the Executive Director for the Office of Safety (NA-ESH-20) within the Office of Environment, Safety & Health at NNSA. Kim has been with MELE since 2022. Her role is to collaborate closely with the Deputy Associate Administrator to juggle competing priorities, track and respond to division deliverables, manage forecasting and reconciliation of the travel budgets, and collaborate with leadership across NA-ESH and NA-ESH-20, among other duties.

Prior to joining the MELE team, Kim was the Executive Assistant to the President of Sweet Briar College. She had left her post at the Department of Energy’s Office of Enterprise Assessments to care for an ill parent and joined the Sweet Briar College team during that time. Kim also has experience as an executive level recruiter, an events coordinator, and a Girl Scout mentor.

“NA-ESH is a young organization, meaning there are multiple ways to grow and to take on additional work. I’ve been able to serve on two Training Qualification Program (TQP) assessments for NNSA and am now engaged in the Safety Staffing Solutions Integrated Project Team (IPT) brainstorming creative ways to alleviate staffing shortages and enhance legacy knowledge capture across the NNSA Enterprise,” shared Kim.

“I really enjoy my role because I get to work directly with NA-ESH-20 leadership and team members in the Office of the Chief of Staff. It is like being part of a family. Working at MELE is great, too. Justin Hixson is an amazing manager who makes himself available when questions arise. MELE has a very welcoming culture—I love working for MELE,” she added.

Kim is an invaluable asset to both MELE and ESH. She is leaned on heavily for her vast knowledge and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Having Kim on our team makes my job easier and she consistently delivers excellent work to the ESH office,” stated MELE VP Justin Hixson.

Kim grew up on a family farm in Altavista, Virginia surrounded by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other family members. When not working, Kim loves to travel. She just got back from a two-week vacation in Australia and is planning a cruise for the fall.
