Rockville, Maryland, September 24, 2024—MELE Associates, Inc. (MELE), a veteran and minority-owned government contractor with more than three decades of success serving U.S. federal, state, and local agencies and international organizations, announced today that it was awarded a new contract by the Battelle Memorial Institute, Pacific Northwest Division.
MELE will provide law enforcement subject matter expertise to the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation (DNS) Office of Radiological Security (ORS). Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by the Battelle Memorial Institute, is the implementing agent on behalf of ORS.
MELE will assist ORS’s mission of reducing, removing, and protecting vulnerable radiological material located at civilian sites worldwide, helping the Department of Energy (DOE) achieve its nuclear security goal to prevent the acquisition of radioactive materials for use in weapons of mass destruction and other acts of terrorism. As part of this effort, MELE’s subject matter experts provide PNNL and ORS with outreach services to local police agencies and hospitals. This outreach covers a variety of training initiatives, including, but not limited to, Radiological Security Awareness & Response (RSAR), Sentry-SECURE, RadSecure 100, Isotope Crossroads, Radiant Response, and Silent Thunder tabletop training exercises.
